Planning to sell gold in Kerala? Learn the 3 essential steps before you go: weigh your gold at home, check the BIS hallmark, and take clear photos. Protect your money with these proven tips.
Thinking of selling your gold in Kerala?
Before you step into a shop, do these three things first.
These simple steps will protect your money and give you confidence.
1. Weigh Your Gold at Home
Use a digital kitchen scale.
It doesn’t have to be a jeweler’s scale—just a simple one that measures in grams.
- Place your items one by one.
- Write down the weights.
- Compare this with what the buyer’s machine shows.
If there is a big difference, ask why.
A small scale at home has saved many of my clients from hidden losses.
2. Check the Hallmark
Look for the BIS hallmark on each piece.
This mark confirms purity—22K, 18K, or another standard.
- The mark is usually inside the bangle, on the clasp of a chain, or near the lock of a pendant.
- If you can’t find it, take a magnifying glass or use your phone’s zoom.
- Note down the karat value.
Without this check, you may end up accepting a lower purity price.
3. Take Clear Photos
Use your phone to click photos before handing anything over.
- Place the gold on a white background.
- Take shots from multiple angles.
- Save them on your phone and in the cloud.
Why?
Because once you hand over your gold, it gets mixed with other items.
Your photos are proof of weight, purity, and condition.
I’ve followed these three steps for decades in Kerala.
They create discipline and reduce disputes.
When you sell your gold, will you trust only the buyer’s word—or will you walk in prepared?
